One of the most popular aesthetic procedures right now is “Trap Tox” (aka “Barbie Tox”) - offering both aesthetic enhancements and relief from physical discomfort. If you're looking to address neck or shoulder pain or aiming for a sleeker, less masculine shoulder profile, Trap Tox provides an ideal solution. As a boutique / solo practice I’m always looking to offer the latest and proven treatments in cosmetic dermatology - so I’m super excited to introduce this innovative treatment option to my clients. What are the Benefits of Trap Tox? Trap Tox offers several aesthetic and physical benefits, including: - Refinement of shoulder appearance, achieving a slimmer, more feminine look - Improved posture - Elongation of the neck - Alleviation of neck and shoulder pain and tension - Reduction of headaches and muscle spasms - Enhanced comfort during physical activities and exercise - Swift, non-invasive procedure - Minimal to no recovery downtime How Does Trap Tox Work? The power of Trap Tox lies in the neurotoxins (e.g. Botox), which contain botulinum toxin type A, a neuromodulator. Upon injection into the trapezius muscle, this neurotoxin temporarily disrupts communication between nerves and muscles, effectively inhibiting muscle contractions. This mechanism not only alleviates tension and discomfort but also induces gradual muscle atrophy, leading to a slenderizing effect on the shoulders and a visually elongated neck. What Should I Expect During the Procedure? During your appointment, I will first evaluate your trapezius muscles and understand your desired results. The procedure itself lasts only 10-20 minutes, with minimal discomfort and no downtime. The number of Botox units administered will be tailored to the size and strength of your trapezius muscle, as well as your desired goals. What is the Recovery Time? Typically, Trap Tox requires minimal recovery time, allowing you to resume your routine immediately. While strenuous exercise should be avoided for 24 hours post-treatment, and refrain from touching or rubbing the injection sites. How Soon Will I See Results? Results from Trap Tox typically manifest within two to four days, with full effects appearing within 10 to 14 days. The duration of results varies but typically lasts between four to six months. While side effects such as swelling, bruising, or soreness may occur, severe reactions are rare. What is the Cost?
Treatments start at $900. The total number of units are based on the size and strength of your trapezius muscles as well as your goals for the treatment. With Trap Tox, you can embrace a rejuvenated appearance and newfound comfort. Postpartum hair loss, also known as telogen effluvium, is a common condition that affects many women after childbirth (including me). This temporary hair loss occurs due to hormonal changes during pregnancy and the subsequent adjustment period after giving birth. As estrogen levels drop, hair follicles enter a resting phase, leading to increased shedding and thinning of the hair. If you're struggling with hair loss after giving birth there is a highly effective, non-surgical, treatment option available to combat the problem: Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment. I can personally attest to the effectiveness of this treatment in regrowing hair having experienced postpartum hair loss myself and seeing the incredible results from PRP treatment (see my results below).
The Process
PRP treatment involves a simple and safe process that begins with a small blood draw. The blood is then spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelets from the other components. These concentrated platelets, rich in growth factors (also referred to as "Liquid Gold"), are then injected into the scalp to stimulate hair growth. This innovative procedure harnesses the natural healing properties of platelets to promote hair follicle regeneration and strengthen existing hair. The Results You may see visible results as early as 30 days after your first treatment. That said, it may take several sessions before significant improvement is noticed. I recommend starting with 3 treatments spaced out by 4 weeks. After the initial 3 sessions, the treatment frequency becomes more personalized, but I generally recommend to continue treatments every 4-6 months. The Research In addition to seeing the results directly on myself and clients, several studies have shown that PRP treatment can significantly improve hair density and thickness, providing visible results for individuals experiencing hair loss. According to one study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, PRP treatment for hair loss has shown promising outcomes, with 70% of participants reporting a reduction in hair shedding and an overall improvement in hair volume after just three treatment sessions[^1^]. Another study published in the International Journal of Women's Dermatology found that PRP treatment resulted in a significant increase in hair count, hair thickness, and patient satisfaction[^2^]. These scientific findings highlight the effectiveness of PRP treatment as a viable solution for postpartum hair loss. Take the first step PRP therapy offers a non-surgical and highly effective solution for hair regrowth, density, and overall hair health. The risk of adverse reaction or complication is minimal, as PRP is extracted from your own blood. It is a relatively quick and straightforward procedure that can deliver life changing results. These scars result from the skin's attempt to heal itself in an unorganized manner, unfortunately leaving behind raised tissue or depressions in the skin's surface.
In this post, I will discuss my 4-step approach to treating acne scars to achieve a smooth and even complexion: 1. SkinPen Microneedling SkinPen is the MVP of microneedling. It was the first FDA approved microneedling device and specifically approved for treating acne scars - this means it has been clinically tested and verified to get you results! This treatment involves using tiny needles to make controlled punctures in the skin, stimulating the body's natural healing process. 2. Adding PRP to SkinPen Microneedling Adding Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) as a serum to your microneedling treatment will take your results to the next level. PRP is a rich source of growth factors and proteins whose main function is tissue repair, regeneration, and remodeling. Microneedling PRP directly into skin greatly enhances the effects of microneedling and of PRP itself. 3. PRP Injections Injecting PRP directly into scars allows for a greater volume of PRP to be concentrated at the site of the scarring. A higher volume in these specific areas aids in regeneration and healing of this tissue. 4. Rx Tretinoin Cream I prescribe Tretinoin cream to enhance your results, working its magic to shed old skin layers and reveal a smoother, more youthful appearance. Tretinoin isn't just for acne scars, it also prevents and treats acne, as well as other signs of aging such as sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles, and uneven skin tone and texture. In Conclusion Combining SkinPen microneedling, PRP as a serum to microneedling, PRP injections, and a prescription for Tretinoin cream creates a powerful synergy that effectively targets and treats acne scars. You can start with just one of these options and get great results or we can make a plan to incorporate all of the above to maximize results. Sarah-Kate Rems, NP Medical Aesthetics 10/25/2023 Which Lip Filler Is Right For You?Lip Filler Basics
When it comes to enhancing your lips, nothing is better than a hyaluronic acid based dermal filler. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occuring sugar in the skin and it works by drawing water into cells. This results in plumper, more youthful appearing lips. What Lip Fillers Can Do: Hydrate As we age, our lips tend to lose their natural hydration, leaving them feeling dry and looking wrinkled. Lip fillers work to draw in more water to give your lips a more youthful and supple appearance. Plump Lip filler can make your lips go from looking like a raisin to more like a grape. Color Aging often causes lips to lose their pinkish hue. Lip fillers can help to bring back that rosy tint. Correct Asymmetries Lip filler is an excellent tool for achieving balanced, symmetrical lips. The under eye area is one of the first places to show signs of aging and wear and tear, and is also one of the most difficult places to treat. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) offers a safe and effective solution for rejuvenating the under eye area - and it’s completely natural. Benefits of PRP Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a concentrated sample of your own blood, packed with growth factors and essential proteins that boost collagen and elastin production and are directly involved with tissue healing and regeneration. It’s a completely natural treatment, virtually eliminating the risk of complication or adverse reaction. Why PRP Is Great for the Under Eye Area The effects of PRP smooth, hydrate, and plump aging skin, naturally leading to:
The PRP Treatment Process 1. A small sample of your blood is drawn 2. The sample is spun in a centrifuge for 10 minutes, separating the platelets from the rest of the blood 3. The concentrated PRP is extracted and prepared for injection 4. A fine needle is used to gently and precisely deliver the PRP What to Expect After Your Treatment Directly after your treatment, you can expect some temporary effects:
These effects generally subside within a few hours up to 72 hours. While you may notice some positive results after a week, full results can take 3-6 months. For optimal results, I recommend a series of 3 treatments spaced out by 4-6 weeks. After this, PRP injections become a maintenance procedure, 1-2 times a year. Sarah-Kate Rems, NP Medical Aesthetics Microneedling with PRP, often referred to as the trademarked name, "Vampire Facial," first gained attention from its association with celebrities like the Kardashians who publicly endorsed its transformative effects. This procedure involves two powerful components: microneedling and Platelet-Rich-Plasma (PRP), both of which are majorly effective for skin rejuvenation. Let's take a closer look at how these two techniques work together to unveil you skin's natural radiance.
Microneedling Microneedling is a procedure that involves using a specialized device (I use SkinPen, the first FDA cleared microneedling device) which has several needles to create controlled micro-injuries on the skin's surface. These micro-injuries induce the body's natural wound healing process. This process triggers the production of collagen and elastin, two key proteins of the skin responsible for maintaining skin firmness, smoothness, and elasticity. As we age, the production of collagen and elastin diminishes, leading to wrinkles, uneven skin tone and texture, and sagging skin. Microneedling addresses these age-related concerns by coaxing the skin to regenerate and repair itself, resulting in a more revitalized appearance. Read more about microneedling here. Platelet-Rich-Plasma (PRP) PRP, derived from your own blood, is a potent component that contains growth factors and specialized proteins that are instrumental in tissue repair and cell growth. When applied or injected into the skin, PRP stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, while also expediting regeneration of tissue, cell proliferation, and healing. Read more about PRP here. Microneedling + PRP - The Perfect Pair Microneedling with PRP takes the benefits of either on its own to the next level. This synergy yields a more robust production of collagen and elastin, accelerates tissue regeneration and cell growth, shortens healing time, and ultimately delivers superior results compared to either treatment on its own. Benefits of Microneedling with PRP: 1. Collagen Stimulation The procedures increases collagen production, restoring skins youthful radiance. 2. Reduced Lines and Wrinkles The appearance of fine lines and wrinkles diminishes, giving way to smoother looking skin. 3. Improved Skin Tone and Texture Hyperpigmentation and irregular skin texture are visibly diminished, promoting an even complexion. 4, Firmer Skin The combined effects of collagen and elastin boost skin firmness and elasticity, reducing sagging and restoring a more contoured appearance. In Summary... Microneedling with PRP is a dynamic duo that works together to rejuvenate the skin. As we age, our skin's natural regeneration processes slow down, leading to visible signs of aging. Microneedling with PRP boosts your body's innate healing abilities revealing a rejuvenated, radiant complexion. Sarah-Kate Rems, NP Medical Aesthetics Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is a non-invasive and effective hair restoration treatment for both men and women. It involves utilizing your blood's own growth factors to stimulate hair regrowth, enhance hair density, and prevent hair loss. This articles explores how PRP works for hair restoration, what to expect during the procedure, and why it is an effective treatment for hair loss and prevention.
How PRP Works for Hair Restoration PRP is rich in growth factors, which promote formation of new blood vessels, induce collagen production, and stimulate cell proliferation. These effects collectively improve the overall health and vitality of hair follicles leading to thicker, fuller hair. Lets break this down further: 1. Regrows hair. PRP activates dormant hair follicles, promoting them to enter an active growth stage, leading to hair regrowth. 2. Increases density of existing hair follicles. The growth factors in PRP promote an increase in thickness of existing hair strands, leading to greater volume. 3. Prevents Hair Loss. PRP combats hair thinning and loss overtime by improving the health of the individual hair follicles. What to Expect at Your Appointment The process of PRP for hair restoration can be broken down into 4 simple steps: 1. Blood sample. A small sample of blood is taken from your arm. 2. Centrifugation. The sample of blood is spun in a centrifuge for 10 minutes. The centrifuge separates the platelet-rich plasma from the other blood components. 3. Separation of PRP. Once the centrifugation process is complete, the platelet-rich plasma is extracted and drawn into syringes. 4. Injection. The PRP is skillfully and carefully injected into areas of the scalp experiencing thinning or hair loss. How Many Treatments Will I Need? I recommend starting with 3 treatments spaced out by 4 weeks. After the initial 3 sessions, the treatment frequency becomes more personalized, but I generally recommend to continue treatments every 4-6 months. When Will I See Results? Results may become visible as soon as 30 days after your first treatment. That said, it may take several sessions before significant improvement is noticed. Summary PRP therapy offers a non-surgical and highly effective solution for hair regrowth, density, and overall hair health. The risk of adverse reaction or complication is minimal, as PRP is extracted from your own blood. It is a relatively quick and straightforward procedure that can deliver life changing results, and is a treatment I recommend for both men and women dealing with mild to moderate hair thinning. It brightens, protects, and helps to minimize signs of aging. That said, choosing a good vitamin C serum can be tricky because there are so many out there on the market. Read below to understand what to look for when it comes to choosing an effective vitamin C serum.
1. Form of Vitamin C There are many different forms of Vitamin C, L-ascorbic acid is the most effective and bioavailable form for the skin. It penetrates the skin easily and promotes collagen synthesis. 2. Concentration of Vitamin C The concentration of vitamin C is a critical factor when it comes to choosing a good serum. Look for a product that contains a concentration of 10-20%. This concentration is at optimal effectiveness without causing irritation. Concentrations that are higher may be irritating to skin. Note that those with very sensitive skin may need to look for concentrations lower than 10%. 3. Additional antioxidants Look for a vitamin C serum that is enriched with other antioxidants that enhance the effect of vitamin C. Two in particular include ferulic acid and vitamin E, which work with vitamin C to boost its effectiveness and provide enhanced protection against free radicals and environmental damage. 4. Packaging Vitamin C is highly sensitive to light, air, and heat as these factors can degrade its potency. Look for glass bottles with dark packaging. Investing in a high quality vitamin C is a must when it comes to taking care of your skin and understanding what to look for is a crucial first step. Sarah-Kate Rems, NP - Medical Aesthetics |
